Lack of Snow Delays Mt. Bachelor’s Ski Season Start

Unseasonably warm and dry conditions leave the mountain without enough coverage to open on Nov. 28

Mt. Bachelor is postponing the start of its 2025–26 ski season as warm, dry weather continues to limit early-season snowfall across Central Oregon.

In a video update shared Monday, resort officials confirmed that Opening Day — originally scheduled for November 28 — will be pushed back until further notice.

“After careful consideration assessing the snowpack and studying the latest weather forecasts, we have made the decision to postpone our scheduled November 28th opening day,” the resort announced. “We are committed to opening as soon as conditions allow, which typically requires about a 24 inch base.”

As of Monday evening, Mt. Bachelor had reported 18 inches of total snowfall for the season and a 2-inch base, according to the mountain’s snow report. A live view from the West Village Snow Stake webcam showed the measurement stake resting on bare ground, highlighting the impact of the region’s recent stretch of unusually warm and dry weather.

Last year, early-season storms allowed Mt. Bachelor to open nearly two weeks ahead of schedule. This year, conditions are trending in the opposite direction.

Resort crews say they are taking advantage of every snowmaking window available. “Our team continues to take advantage of every snowmaking opportunity, and it’s great to see snow and sustained cold temps in the forecast,” the update said.

Mt. Bachelor will announce a new opening date once weather and base conditions improve. Until then, staff encourage skiers and riders to “think snowy thoughts” as they wait for the season to begin.
